Planning a Birthday Party as an Adult

Planning a birthday party as an adult can be daunting. You and your guests are all coming off a long work week, hoping to really unwind. It can be a fine line to walk trying to plan something that is chill and not boring. It’s also hard to come up with unique ideas that will be enjoyed by your group of friends, because most people probably organize a sit-down dinner at a nice restaurant, or maybe the ones with more energy will go to a club or something. You don’t want your birthday to really blend in with all the others, but you also don’t want it to stand out for the wrong reasons.

You could maybe organize a fun game night, where the booze will be flowing, and the competition is at a healthy high. An event like that is really a happy medium between high energy and too lowkey. You could have people over at your place, or even check out one of the board game bars that have been popping up all over the place in the last few years. You could maybe call ahead and ask the bartenders if they could mix a specialty drink just for you and your guests and let them know ahead of time your guest list numbers as well. Now you could also take the competition out on the streets, by organizing a city-wide scavenger hunt. You could challenge your guests to explore and discover your city or your town. Now this is a little more complicated because you have to come up with clues that everyone can solve eventually, but I think the payoff is worth the effort because it would definitely be an event to remember.

If the weather is favorable, and there is a nice sandy beach close by. Why not head waterside for a day to destress and relax with all your friends? Some beaches allow for drinking and barbecues, so maybe check out one of those and give everyone a little break from routine. At the beach, you can easily bring in disposable or recyclable party supplies, and maybe beautiful beach towels that can be used to accent your Instagram photos too.

You could also organize a few things in your own home, like a grown-up slumber party, complete with candy, pizza, alcohol and a roster of your absolute favorite movies. This would be a great way to relive those childhood days when you stayed up all night at a friend’s house, talking, watching terrible movies, but this time you can drink too. If you don’t have as much sleeping room though, why not organize a little in-home spa day. A little selfcare never hurt anyone, so you could set up facials, nail stations, and maybe even hire a masseuse for a couple of hours to really treat yourself and your friends.

No matter what you decide to do for your birthday, make sure you stay organized and within your budget. Go a little eccentric with your party supplies, order fun colors and items for your guests to enjoy. Also, just have fun!
